In the current HV&I Reviewer Highlight we are pleased to recognize Prakash Bhuyan and his service to the scientific community.
Dr. Bhuyan is an Infectious Diseases specialist with 20+ years of experience in academia and industry. He is currently Chief Medical Officer for Aerium Therapeutics, a small biotech focused on developing pandemic and epidemic countermeasures. Following a Bachelor’s degree from the Johns Hopkins University, he trained at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center receiving his MD and his PhD (Immunology). He completed Internal Medicine training at Emory School of Medicine and Infectious Diseases sub-specialization at the University of Pennsylvania. Most recently, he was the Head of Clinical Development for Vaccines and Immune Therapies at AstraZeneca, organizing and managing the teams that developed COVID products (Vaxzevria™ and Evusheld™), as well as RSV- and Influenza-focused products at the height of the COVID pandemic. Prior to that he was the Senior Vice President, Clinical Development, at Inovio Pharmaceuticals leading the product development of a novel HPV therapeutic into Phase 3. He has also held vaccines and biologics leadership roles at Pfizer and Merck which resulted in the licensures of Trumenba™ for Meningococcal B disease prevention and Vaxelis™, a combination pediatric vaccine.
