This special issue edition mainly focuses on algae bioprocesses. Microalgae have been recognized to possess great potential in the bioeconomy context. The microalgae sector has undergone an impressive growth over the past decade which is contributed by recent interest in alternative sources of fuel and food. The potential advantages and sustainability of bioprocess-based energy and bio-production systems have also increased interest in the production of biofuels and value-added bio-products from microalgae.

The researches focusing on microalgae to generate green and sustainable biofuels serve as an effective approach to how we can successfully exploit an underutilized and valuable natural resource. With the increased healthcare cost, there will be a huge demand in the nutraceutical and pharmaceutical market for cheaper yet quality supplements. Great potential has been found in the application of microalgae-based bioactive compounds in the production of fine chemicals, pharmaceuticals and functional food ingredients that contribute to a large market size of algae bioproducts.

This Special Issue invites manuscripts from academicians working on developing algae-related processes. Authors are invited to submit original research articles covering areas of algae cultivation, wastewater treatment using algae, harvesting and extraction of algae biomass, as well as bioproducts, biofuels, biofertilizers/stimulants/pesticides production and algae biorefinery. The manuscripts were regularly submitted; selected and reviewed by the submission system and then accepted for publication.

The future of Bioengineered Journal is reliant on the quality of work submitted by our contributing authors. Being the Guest Editors, it is our great pleasure to invite potential scientists and researchers from around the world to avail this opportunity and contribute their work to the journal. Thank you for selecting Bioengineered Journal as the publication destination for your work.

The guest editors thank the authors for their contribution to the new knowledge and the reviewers for their valuable time and efforts in the review process. Besides, we would like to thank Prof. Mohammad J. Taherzadeh, Editor-in-Chief of the journal, and Dr. Jennifer Stokes, Journal Manager and the entire publishing team for their help and support in bringing out this special issue.
