Alexander Schultz needs little introduction to readers of Scandinavian Journal of Urology. One of the leading Scandinavian urologists of his generation, Alexander was a constant standard bearer for our profession, with a strong interest in the Scandinavian and international collaborations. Alexander Schultz, who at the age of 73 suddenly died on 7 July 2020, was among the world’s most eminent urologists, and one of the leading lights in urological care and development.

After residency in Copenhagen he moved to Oslo and focused on the development of reconstructive and neurourology in Norway at Rikshospitalet. He also became one of the corner-stones in the Reconstructive collaboration group in the Scandinavian Association of Urology (abbreviated as NUF). During the last decade he was highly involved in the education of younger colleagues to obtain a generational change transferring his enormous knowledge, and experience, done always with a smile.

Schultz also served, during 16 years, as the General Secretary for NUF, with a never-ending interest in development and support of the Nordic collaboration groups. The Scandinavian Association of Urology celebrated its 50th anniversary a couple of years ago with an improved biannual Congress in the Nordic countries. The improved interest in the congresses was much based on the focus on education and collaboration groups.

His humanism and altruistic characteristic were also evident in his contribution for international missions in different help organizations. These missions have been done in Lebanon, Indonesia, Haiti, Afghanistan, Nepal and Sudan, and during the last winter he served for weeks in Kenya. In Scandinavian journal of Urology, he also served as a diligent reviewer mostly having a constructive criticism useful for improvements of manuscripts in favour of the authors.

Our deep thoughts are with his family, we miss you while bright memories remain.
