Abstract

A novel spectrophotometric method for rapid estimation of clarithromycin and azithromycin in authentic sample, pharmaceutical dosage forms and in human plasma was developed using p-chloranilic acid. The method depends on charge transfer reaction between p-chloranilic acid and the mentioned drugs. Linearity was observed over a concentration range of 5 to 50 μg/mL-1 clarithromycin and azithromycin. The results indicate that the proposed method is very sensitive, rapid, accurate, selective, and reproducible. The method was validated according to ICH guidelines. The method has been successfully applied for the analysis of marketed formulations and spiked human plasma.
