Abstract

Pharmacognostic and phytochemical analysis of stem and stem extract of Waltheria indica L. were investigated. The powder microscopy of the stem revealed the presence of xylem vessels, phloem fibers, starch grains, tannin cells and stellate trichomes. Phytochemical analysis revealed the presence of carbohydrates, steroids, cardiac glycosides, anthroquinone glycosides, saponins, tannins, flavonoids, phenolics and organic acids. The GC-MS analysis revealed the presence of 18 major bioactive compounds in the ethanolic stem extract.
