Introduction: inside the British adult entertainment business

ORCID Icon

Following previous editions of the Porn Studies Forum section, and publications such as The Feminist Porn Book (Taormino et al. Citation2012), this forum brings together discourses from academia and industry to provide a brief insight into the inner workings of the contemporary British adult entertainment business. Firstly, Jo Bowring, Anna Carline, Claire Gunby, Kim Ross-Houlse, and Conan Leavey give an introduction to the UK Adult Film Performer Project, a study that seeks to discover what it means to be a worker in the UK’s adult film industry. The second piece is written by Terry Stephens, chairperson of the United Kingdom of Adult Producers (UKAP) network. Stephens reflects on the development of UKAP and how it was introduced to support those who are involved in British adult entertainment business. Finally, Mia Young shares her experience of being a new performer, highlighting how the roles of producer and performer are becoming increasingly blurred.
