ABSTRACT
This article explores the culture of porn fandom that develops at the Adult Video Network’s annual event, the Adult Entertainment Expo. Through participant observation at the Expo, we focus on the social aspects of the event, how fans express themselves and their values, and the kinds of activities they participate in. Attending the Expo is a social practice that goes beyond the enjoyment or consumption of porn. Fans participate in meaning-making activities and develop a collective identity based on their shared experiences of fandom. We argue that attending the Expo itself is a tourist attraction, and that studying the culture of porn fandom present in the Expo further develops an understanding of the intersections between porn studies and fan studies.
