Resourcefulness opportunities and challenges in local government: Australian perspectives – guest editor’s introduction

Abstract

The special issue is introduced here by appreciating briefly the broad context in which local governments in Australia are established and operate. Their diversity but common significance are important features, with numerous expectations and pressures from communities, the market and the other levels of government constantly being felt and requiring appropriate responses. Accordingly, to survive as purposeful and meaningful entities, they forever need to seize opportunities and cope with challenges such as, and well beyond, those addressed so pertinently in the following articles.
