When this article was first published online, the values presented in the paper for three supplemental indices (the PAI-ADHD, the Negative Distortion Scale, and the Item-FAA scale), calculated at the individual item level, were incorrect, as a portion of the data was affected by a recoding error that failed to recode item responses (ranging 1–4) into item scores (ranging 0–3). Thus, for those participants, the computed scores were both artificially elevated and failed to account for reverse-scored items. However, the summary PAI scale and subscale scores were not affected by this error. The following updates have been made to data to correct the above-described error along with a few textual corrections:

  • Page 5: small updates were made to the reporting of the correlations between the PAI-ADHD and the CAARS-E, as well as the PAI-ADHD and the Inattention scale.

  • Page 5: small updates were made to the reporting of the ANOVA to compare the PAI-ADHD scores across the three groups.

  • Table 2 was updated to reflect the new group differences and comparison statistics for the PAI-ADHD scale.

  • Table 3 was updated to reflect new group differences and comparison statistics for the NDS and the Item-FAA scale.

  • Table 4 was updated to reflect new group differences and comparison statistics for all scales. Since these conditional analyses were impacted by the updated coding of the PAI-ADHD, all scales were impacted, though only the NDS and the Item-FAA scale were substantively impacted.

  • Interpretations and recommendations were updated throughout the discussion based on these changes. Notably, our recommendation was updated to use both the NDS (cut-score: 80.5) and the Item-FAA (cut score: 0.99) to identify feigners.

  • The updated Tables 2, 3, and 4 are displayed below.

Table 2. Control group vs. ADHD group for the PAI ADHD indicators and the CAARS-E scale.

Table 3. ROC Curves for all negative distortion indicators differentiating feign from ADHD group.

Table 4. ROC Curves for identifying feigning conditional on elevated PAI-ADHD score.
