Abstract
This paper deals with the influence of deep cryogenic treatment on the induction hardened En 8 steel. Deep cryogenic treatment is a treatment of steel at −196 °C for 24 h. The result shows that deep cryogenic treatment increases ultimate tensile strength by 33.94% when compared to conventional induction hardened steel. Deep cryogenic treatment shows a tremendous increase in compressive residual stress of steel. The SEM analysis reveals that martensitic microstructure is observed in deep cryogenic treatment samples and induction hardened samples.
