Cutting mechanics analysis in turning process to optimise product sustainability

ABSTRACT

Turning process is a major part of machining processes in the manufacturing industries to perform the required products therefore, development of an optimisation techniques to sustain the manufactured product is very important. Experimentation and validation of cutting force and power consumption requirement is very important techniques for measuring and evaluation of the turning process, but it needs high cost, time and an experimental lab facility. This paper presents an investigation based on mathematical analysis through incorporated works of experimentation data to obtain optimum cutting parameters for minimum forces and power requirement. The aim of the study was to satisfy the minimum criterion of cutting force and power requirement thorough the mathematical analysis. The experimentation data of material removal rate (MRR), the effect of control parameters such as cutting speed (Vc), depth of cut (Cd) and feed rate (fr) were used to determine the influence of the factors in turning process. The results of this work shown that the techniques covered thorough incorporated L9, orthogonal array experimentation data, mathematical and statistical analysis (ANOVA); exclusively satisfied the minimum criterion of cutting force and power requirement. In general, the experimentation and validation results that satisfy the maximum criterion of (MRR), correspondingly satisfied the minimum criterion of cutting force and power requirement.
