Editorial

Dear Readers,

As I write, nearly six months have passed since I took over as editor-in-chief of Science and Technology in the Built Environment. We’ve had a string of special issues edited by guest editors, so this is the first opportunity for me to write to the readership.

I can’t help but begin with a hearty thanks to Reinhard Radermacher and Mary Baugher. Reinhard shepherded the journal for 16 years and continuously increased both the quality of the journal and the quantity of papers published. Mary served as managing editor during the same 16 years and kept everything running. Both Reinhard and Mary have been extremely helpful during the transition. Thanks!

I’d like to take this opportunity to introduce our new managing editor, Jennifer Holcomb. Jennifer manages submissions and final production. If you have questions about submitting your initial version or final version, please contact Jennifer ([email protected]).

STBE relies on volunteer associate editors and reviewers. We greatly appreciate their time expended reviewing papers, maintaining and improving the quality of STBE. To help speed their work, we have revised the author instructions to place figures and tables in line within the review manuscript. I hope that a little less reviewer time spent flipping back and forth or paging up and down will make at least a small difference in the reviewer experience.

Our associate editors Steve Brown and Pradeep Bansal have served their terms and rolled off the editorial board. Thank you to both colleagues for their service. I welcome two new associate editors—Zheng O’Neill and Michel Bernier.

STBE also relies on our authors! A few of you have asked about submitting in LaTeX, and that is now possible. Please give it a try and let us know if you have problems. We look forward to receiving your submissions, in Word or LaTeX.

STBE is ASHRAE’s archival research journal. ASHRAE summer meetings include a research track, known as the “Research Summit.” ASHRAE recently introduced the presentation of extended abstracts with the intention that these topics may be expanded into full STBE journal papers. This summer, ASHRAE will meet in Austin, Texas, June 27–July 1. Extended abstracts are due February 10. I encourage our authors to take advantage of this opportunity. I look forward to seeing you at upcoming ASHRAE meetings.
