To new authors and readers of Mitochondrial DNA Part B: Resources from the Editorial Office

Erratum

Welcome to Mitochondrial DNA Part B: Resources, a new journal created as a result of the high volume of submissions of technical papers and mitogenome announcements to the journal Mitochondrial DNA. This new journal will serve the mitogenomics community by rapidly and efficiently publishing reports on mitogenomes and short technical reports on mitochondrial DNA polymorphisms, including their association with disease, DNA barcoding and database reports.

We are excited about the development of this new journal as an Open Access publication. Publishing Open Access will help to maximize the outreach, visibility and accessibility of research articles published in the journal.

To avoid delays in processing and review of Mitogenome Announcements, please follow the guidelines listed below.

Manuscripts in the Mitogenome Announcement category must be concise (maximum of 500 words and one figure) and clearly written. The following is a checklist of items that must be included in the manuscript.

  • The scientific name of the organism that is the subject of the paper is required. Please make sure that the spelling of the scientific name is correct.

  • The locality where the specimen was collected is required. We strongly recommend that geospatial coordinates be used. If you do not have geospatial coordinates, then this makes the specimen’s sequence less than desirable.

  • The disposition of the specimen. This would include where the specimen is stored and what is its accession number. We will give strong preference to papers where the primary specimen material has been accessioned by a museum or a natural history collection, and possesses an accession number.

  • The Genbank/EMBL/DDBJ accession code of the specimen’s DNA sequence must be included in the text of the manuscript. Submissions lacking this information will be immediately rejected.

  • One single figure is required and allowed. This figure must be a phylogenetic tree. The method of phylogenetic tree construction must be clearly explained either in the main text or in the figure legend. We will give preference to phylogenetic trees estimated based on complete or nearly complete organelle genome sequences. Genbank/EMBL/DDBJ accession codes for all sequences must be listed in the figure or figure legend.

  • Each Mitogenome Announcement requires a Declaration of Interest (see guidelines on this statement). This is not to be confused with the Acknowledgements section.

Furthermore, Short Communications should be submitted to Mitochondrial DNA Part B: Resources. Guidelines for Short Communications should be followed closely to avoid delays in processing and review. Short Communications must not exceed 1500 words in length. Only two displays are allowed: two figures, one figure and one table, or two tables. Guidelines for any DNA sequences generated for Short Communications should follow the guidelines listed above for Mitogenome Announcements.
