ABSTRACT
Two new mononuclear metal–organic complexes with hydrazone ligand, namely bis(2-acetonaphthonebenzoylhydrazonato)copper and bis(2-acetonaphthonebenzoylhydrazonato)zinc have been prepared. The complexes have been characterized by physicochemical methods and single-crystal X-ray diffraction study. The Cu and Zn atoms in both complexes are coordinated by N and O donor atoms of ligand, forming a distorted tetrahedral geometry. Optical properties of the metal complexes were studied by UV–Vis absorption and photoluminescence emission spectroscopy. Geometry optimization, the highest occupied molecular orbital, and the lowest unoccupied molecular orbital energy levels as well as the energy gap of both complexes have been carried out by DFT calculations.
