Synthesis, crystal structure and catalytic property of a copper(II) complex derived from N,N’-Bis(4-methylsalicylidene)cyclohexane-1,2-diamine

Pages 263-266 | Received 20 Jun 2016, Accepted 16 Jul 2018, Published online: 31 Dec 2018

Abstract

A new mononuclear copper(II) complex was prepared from the tetradentate Schiff base ligand N,N’-bis(4-methylsalicylidene)cyclohexane-1,2-diamine (H2L). The complex was characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy and X-ray structure determination. The complex crystallizes in the monoclinic space group P21/c with unit cell dimensions a = 13.439(1) Å, b = 13.671(1) Å, c = 10.5557(8) Å, β = 103.457(1)°, V = 1886.2(3) Å3, Z = 4, R1 = 0.0296, and wR2 = 0.0812. Single crystal X-ray diffraction analysis reveals that the Cu atom is coordinated by two imino N and two phenolate O atoms of the Schiff base ligand, in a square planar coordination. Catalytic oxidation of the complex on some olefins was performed.
