ABSTRACT
On the basis of layered silicates, montmorillonite (MMT) with lamellar structure was selected to realize the design of constrained damping materials. A novel type of organically modified MMT (MD-OMMT) containing -OH groups was prepared by introducing of organic hindered phenol groups. This novel filler, MD-OMMT, was then applied into chlorinated butyl rubber (CIIR) composites. After addition of different amounts of MD-OMMT, their tensile strength and elongation at break were improved. In addition, the damping factor was increased compared with that of pure CIIR. Moreover, the damping temperature was shifted to the room temperature and its damping temperature range was widened.
