ABSTRACT

Biobased PA56 is an innovative type of biobased polyamide that is regarded as the most potential material to replace traditional petroleum-based polyamide. However, biobased PA56 exhibits poor notched impact strength, which limits its applications. Biobased PA56/poly(octene-co-ethylene) grafted glycidyl methacrylate (POE-g-GMA) composites were mixed through twin-screw extrusion in the toughener range of 0–25 wt% and subsequently investigated for their structural, crystallization behavior, thermal and mechanical properties. Consequently, a nearly seventeen-fold increase in the notched Izod impact strength is registered. The essential work of fracture (EWF) method is used for the determination of fracture toughness of toughened biobased PA56.
