Abstract
This research was focused on the postrotatory nystagmus duration of 41 4-year-old normal children who were enrolled in parent cooperative preschool classes. Data were gathered using the Southern California Postrotary Nystagmus Test with minor alterations in the test administration procedure to control for extraneous variables. Descriptive data on the duration of postrotatory nystagmus indicated that for males and females combined the majority of total scores clustered between 14 and 25 seconds. The mean postrotatory nystagmus duration score of males was found to be significantly longer than the mean duration score for females. No significant difference was found between the variance for total duration scores for males and the variance for total duration scores for females. Comparison between Seattle postrotatory nystagmus data (means and variances) and Ayres' Los Angeles data (means and variances) yielded no significant differences. Future studies on measurement of postrotatory nystagmus using the Southern California Postrotary Nystagmus Test were recommended.
