Abstract

The purposes of this paper are to summarize issues relevant to the clinical management of the older adult with impaired hearing. Age associated changes in hearing structures and functions, the potential consequences of these changes to psychosocial function, and rehabilitation strategies by nonaudiologists to reduce the disabling effects of hearing impairments are discussed. Areas of needed research for this population are suggested.
