Abstract

A new flow injection chemiluminescence (CL) method has been developed for determination of rutin. It is based on the direct CL from the reaction of rutin with luminol in the presence of potassium ferricyanide and potassium ferrocyanide in alkaline solution. The linear range for the determination of rutin is 0.1–2 μg/ml and the detection limit is 0.03 μg/ml rutin. The relative standard deviation is 0.8% for 0.4 μg/ml rutin solution in eleven repeated measurements. The method has been successfully applied to the determination of rutin in commercial rutin tablets. The reaction mechanism has also been discussed briefly.
