ABSTRACT
A solid phase extraction method for the preconcentration and atomic absorption spectrometric determination of Cu, Fe, Ni, Co, Pb, Cd, Mn, and Cr in natural water samples using Chromosorb-102 packed mini column was developed. Trace metal ions were sorbed on Chromosorb-102 at pH 9 from buffered solution with NH3/NH4Cl buffer and then eluted with 5–10 mL of 1 M HNO3. The recoveries of analyte metal ions were more than 95%. The effects of major cations and anions of the natural water samples on the sorption of metal ions have been also investigated. The amount of the analyte metal ions detected after preconcentration was basically in agreement with the added amount. The present method was found to be applicable to the preconcentration of Cu, Fe, Ni, Co, Pb, Cd, Mn, and Cr in tap and sea waters with good results such as relative standard deviations in the range of 3–8% (N = 10), recoveries greater than 95%.
