Thomas L. Petty Aspen Lung Conference

48th Annual Meeting

June 13–17, 2005

Aspen, Colorado

The focus for this conference is the discovery of the cellular and molecular basis of obstructive lung diseases and the translation of these discoveries to novel treatment strategies. We will explore the chronic progressive nature of these disorders against the background of normal and abnormal functions of lung cells and how they respond to infection, to inflammatory cells, and their mediators. We will address apoptosis and cellular senescence and explore whether there is lung-specific adequate or inadequate regeneration in these diseases. The topics will include COPD phenotypes, genetic disposition of disease, lung cell biology, novel animal models of emphysema, molecular mechanisms of tissue destruction, and cell dysfunction in COPD including phagocytosis, oxidative stress, and immune responses. Abstract deadline is February 14, 2005. For more information, contact: Norbert Voelkel, M.D., c/o Jeanne Cleary, Thomas L.
