Abstract
Pure sodium methylnaphthalene sulfonate (SMNS) was synthesized and its critical micelle concentration (CMC) was measured by both dropping‐volume and conductivity measurements. It was also found that SMNS can reduce the interfacial tension of the n‐heptane/water interface. SMNS possesses definite surface activities, and is not simply a hydrotrope. SMNS likely has applications in enhanced oil recovery (EOR).
