Brief Editorial

Several changes occurred in 2004 concerning this journal, Pharmaceutical Development and Technology, which I wish to bring to all readers' attention.

  1. Taylor and Francis (T&F) purchased the assets of Marcel Dekker and became the new publisher of the journal. We lost the relationship with Mrs. Sandy Beberman, our long time friend and advocate, although Sandy now is vice-president of the book division of T&F. I have been very pleased with the new relationships I have formed with my new friends at T&F: Rachel Ravitsky, Managing Editor, Kimberly Gordon, Editorial Assistant, and Celia Cruz, Production Editor. Our Journal is in great hands with these individuals.

  2. The end of 2004 marked the passage of time where the following Editorial Advisory Board (EAB) members, all part of the original board that Dr. Patrick DeLuca assembled back in 1995, were cycled off the board:

    • Dr. Dominique Duchene

    • Dr. Richard Harwood

    • Dr. Hans Leuenberger

    • Mr. Leo Lucisano

    • Dr. Tsuneji Nagai

    • Dr. Garnet Peck

  3. In 2004 the following scientists were added to the EAB and I am very pleased to introduce them:Dr. Michael J. Jozwiakowski is Senior Laboratory Manager, Pharmaceutical Development, 3M Pharmaceuticals, St. Paul, MN. Dr. Jozwiakowski has 18 years experience in pharmaceutical R&D after receiving his Ph.D. degree in Pharmaceutics from the University of Wisconsin College of Pharmacy. His areas of expertise include preformulation and formulation of suspensions, solutions, topicals, and oral solids.Dr. Takashi Sonobe is Professor, School of Pharmaceutical Sciences, University of Shizuoka, Shizuoka, Japan. Dr. Sonobe received his Ph.D. degree in Physical Chemistry from the University of Tokyo and did postdoctoral research at the University of Michigan College of Pharmacy. Prior to becoming a professor, he worked in various management positions for Yamanouchi Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd. His major research interests include transport phenomena in bio- and physico-pharmaceutical systems and solubilization and stabilization of drugs.

In 2005 we will start printing more review articles. Dr. Robin Bogner, our review article editor, and I encourage anyone to submit a review article manuscript on any topic in the pharmaceutical science field.

I likely will be adding other new members to the EAB in 2005. Anyone reading this who has at least 15 years of experience in pharmaceutical research, development, and technology and enjoys writing and reviewing original research and review articles is welcome to let me know of their interest in joining this EAB. I normally ask the current EAB to vote on potential EAB candidates.

As I have written in previous years, I wish to acknowledge the wonderful support I receive from all members of this journal's EAB, whose names are listed on the inside front cover. The majority of peer review comes from members of our EAB and with their time and support, both as reviewers and authors, this journal enjoys a great reputation for publication of high quality pharmaceutical manuscripts.
