Oligo- and Polyacrylonitrile in Dilute Solution Excluded Volume Effect

, &
Pages 477-490 | Published online: 14 Feb 2007

Abstract

The article is concerned with the conformational characteristics of polyacrylonitrile in dilute solutions of dimethylformamide at 25°C. The excluded volume effects on the intrinsic viscosity of oligo- and polyacrylonitrile were quantitatively explained by the Yamakawa theory that takes into account the effects of chain ends and chain stiffness. The quasi-two-parameter scheme is valid for different polymer-solvent systems irrespective of the larger differences in chain stiffness, local chain conformation, and solvent condition.
