Abstract
An alternative to Levene's and Bartlett's tests for homogeneity of variances is introduced. The test is found to be robust under nonnormality and relatively easy to compute. A comparison of the three tests shows the quantile test to be generally superior when sampling from distributions with lighter tails than the normal distribution.
