ABSTRACT
Phosphonate-functionalized phosphine ligands (2a–d) and their water-soluble di-sodium salts Na2O3PCH2CH2NR1 (CH2CH2NR2) n R3 (3a–d) were prepared by a new route using bis(hydroxymethyl)diphenylphosphonium chloride with 2-aminoethylphosphonic acid and its N-substituted compounds H2O3PCH2CH2NR1(CH2CH2NR2) n R3 (1a–d) under mild conditions at 60–70°C and without special reagents. The solubilities of 3a–d in water at 25°C were also measured and compared.
