Abstract
A novel heterocyclic ligand, N(1)‐salicylidene to N(2)‐cis‐2,6‐diphenyltetrahydrothiopyran‐4‐one azine (HL) and its complexes with Ni(II) [Ni(NO3)2, NiCl2 and Ni(ClO4)2], Co(II), Zn(II) and Fe(III) have been synthesized and characterized by elemental and spectral analyses. The spectral data along with magnetic susceptibility measurements, molar conductance and thermal analyses reveal that the ligand HL acts as a uni to negative bidentate ligand and the metal:ligand stoichiometry is 2:1 with Ni(II) and 2:2 with the other metal ions An X to ray (powder) diffraction study of the zinc complex shows that the complex crystallises in a triclinic lattice.
