Abstract
Two aroylhydrazones, viz., isonicotinic acid [1‐(furan‐2‐yl)ethylidene]hydrazide (IFEH) and isonicotinic acid [1‐(thiophene‐2‐yl)ethylidene]hydrazide (ITEH) have been synthesized by the interaction of 2‐furyl methyl ketone and 2‐thienyl methyl ketone with isonicotinic acid hydrazide in ethanol. Metal chelates of these hydrazones of the compositions [Cu(IFE)2(H2O)2] · H2O (1), [Ni(IFE)2] · H2O (2), [Co(IFE)2(H2O)2] (3), [Mn(IFE)2(H2O)2] · H2O (4), [Zn(IFE)2] · H2O (5), [Cu(ITE)2] (6), [Zn(ITE)2] (7), [Sm(ITE)2(OAc)(H2O) (8) and [Th(ITE)2(NO3)2] (9) (HOAc=CH3COOH) have been prepared. The coordination behaviour of these two hydrazones with different metal ions has been discussed on the basis of analytical data, electronic spectra, magnetic measurements, thermogravimetric analyses, and infrared and nuclear magnetic resonance spectral studies.
