Abstract
Novel hexachlorocyclodiphos(V)phazanes of sulfametrole, N′‐(4‐methoxy‐1,2,5‐thiadiazole‐3‐yl)sulfanilamide, and sulfadimidine, N′‐(4,6‐dimethyl‐2‐pyrimidyl)sulfanilamide, were prepared and their coordinating behavior towards the transition metal ions Fe(III), Fe(II), Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), Zn(II) and Cd(II) was studied. The structures of the isolated products are proposed based on elemental analyses, IR, UV, 1H NMR, mass spectra, reflectance, magnetic susceptibility measurements and thermogravimetric analysis (TGA). The hyperfine interactions in the isolated complex compounds were studied using 14.4 KeV γ‐ray from radioactive 57Co (Mössbauer spectroscopy). The data show that the ligands are coordinated to the metal ions in an octahedral manner. Most of the prepared compounds showed high bactericidal activity and, in some cases, the complexes have higher bactericidal activity than the ligands.
