Abstract
Re‐analysis of the Hal Tarxien prehistoric ship graffiti, the incised figure on a pottery sherd, from the Neolithic site of Grapceva cave on a Croatian island, known as the ‘Hvar boat’, and the Villanovian‐Etruscan bronze razor from Bologna allow the last two to be reinterpreted as animals rather than ships, and the first to be dated to the Bronze Age Cemetery phase of the site. These findings require the earliest ship graffiti in the western Mediterranean to be reconsidered.

De barcos y ciervos: reevaluación de un grafiti de un barco del Mediterráneo occidental temprano
La reevaluación de: el grafiti prehistórico de un barco en Hal Tarxien, la figura incisa en un fragmento cerámico del sitio neolítico de la cueva de Grapceva en la isla croata conocida como ‘Hvar boat’ y la cuchilla de bronce Villanoviana‐Estrusca de Bolonia; permiten reinterpretar las dos últimas como animales y no como barcos, y datar la primera en la fase de los cementerios de la Edad de Bronce del sitio. Estos hallazgos requieren la reconsideración del grafiti de barco más temprano del Mediterráneo occidental.
