1. Kemladen are a special form of castle, from the 13/14th century. Feudal knights who tried to revolt against their overlords lost the right to build a regular castle and were left with the option of building a fortified platform in a lake, supported on poles driven into the ground (http://www.uwa‐pro.de/html/summary.html).
