Abstract
Birgitta E.Gustafsson is discussing how the past at historic sites can be meaning‐made through stories. Whose stories we choose to tell about places/historic sites is connected with power and claims to power. Meaning making includes taken for granted values and personal worldviews that from a pedagogical perspective need to get challenged and provoked. This may be realized through stories that surprise, provoke and dismantle established truths. Learnt understanding gained from this perspective is challenging for both educators and learners within the field of cultural heritage but pivotal from a social and democratic perspective.
