Welcome to this issue. Because of changes to the structure of the Higher Education Academy our title has changed slightly to Engineering Education: a Journal of the Higher Education Academy. But otherwise the journal continues as before. Our fundamental aim is still that the journal should be genuinely useful to academics in engineering education. We hope that you feel we are continuing to achieve that aim and that you find this issue not only useful, but also interesting, stimulating and enjoyable.

At present we publish two issues a year. Our next issue will consist of selected papers from EE2012, the International Conference on Innovation, Practice and Research in Engineering Education which will be held on 18-20 September 2012 at Coventry University. We are already planning the issue after that, which will contain submitted, reviewed papers. Details about submission are given in the inside back cover of this issue and are also available from www.engsc.ac.uk/journal.
