Studies on poly(8-hydroxy-4-azoquinolinephenylacrylate) and its metal complexes

Pages 425-437 | Published online: 02 Apr 2012

Abstract

Poly(8-hydroxy-4-azoquinolinephenylacrylate), prepared from acryloyl chloride with condensation products of 8-hydroxyquinoline and 4-aminophenol, was polymerized in DMF at 70°C using benzoyl peroxide as initiator. Polychelates were obtained in alkaline solution of polymeric ligand with the aqueous solution of Cu(II) and Ni(II). Polymer was characterized by IR and H-NMR techniques. The molecular weight of the polymer was determined by GPC. The polychelates were characterized by elemental analysis, X-ray diffraction, IR and electronic spectral studies. The thermal properties of polymer and polychelates were studied. The metal ion uptake properties of the polymer at different pH are also studied.
