Analysis of the Degradation of the Carrier-To-Noise Plus Total Interference Ratio Concerning a Dual Polarization Site Diversity System Suffering From Differential Rain Attenuation

Abstract

For the modern satellite systems where frequency and orbital congestion will be an expectable fact the analysis of the interference effects is considered to be of utmost importance. In this paper, the differential rain attenuation from an adjacent satellite system as well as the rain cross-polarization (valid for frequency re-use systems) are assumed to be the dominant interference sources. A method to predict the carrier-to-noise plus total interference ratio statistics applied to a single-site system is extended to include systems operating under a site diversity protection scheme. The method is based on a model of convective raincells and the lognormal assumption for the point rainfall statistics. The numerical results examine the influence of various parameters upon the total availability performance and it is expected to be useful toward the optimum system design in the future.
