Abstract
Rain attenuation has been recognized as a major limitation of both microwave and satellite propagation. The worst month analysis for year 2006 has been done and radio propagation research has been undertaken at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Penang. The relation of worst month and yearly cumulative distributions of Ku-band and Ka-band rain attenuation is presented. The values of A and β obtained suggests that the global value proposed by ITU is not suitable for Malaysia which is located in the tropical area. The Ku-band rain attenuation (12.255 GHz) was converted to the Ka-band down-link (19.4 GHz) attenuation by using ITU-R 618-6 rain attenuation prediction model. The worst month of year 2006 is on November. The results of this study are used to predict rain fading properties.
