Abstract

In this paper, the Powell algorithm design methodology is presented for the synthesis of frequency selective surfaces (FSSs) with circular ring patch elements. The Powell algorithm is a local optimizer. It is used to optimize the element dimensions, periodicity and skewed angle of the array, to produce a band-stop FSS. The mode matching method is employed to efficiently evaluate the fitness of a candidate design. The result shows that the initial design is greatly improved after optimized.
