Abstract

Conical Archimedes spiral antennas are designed to produce radiation patterns of cardoid or conical shapes for satellite applications. It is shown that the radiation pattern of this antenna can be easily shaped by setting the geometrical parameters of the conical spiral such as the cone angle and spiral constant. A minimized two-arm conical spiral antenna is presented for low elevation angle communication. The antenna has a beam with its highest gain at about 50° off zenith and its dip at zenith. The gain at 2492 MHz is more than 4.5 dBi from 35° and 65° off zenith. The Measured VSWR actually can satisfy the design request (≤ 1.2).
