Abstract

A novel multi-band monopole antenna using a pair of symmetrical mushroom-shaped self-complementary resonators (SCRs) is presented. The original antenna is composed of a monopole with arc-shaped edge and a beveled ground producing wide bandwidth with S 11 lower than −10 dB from lower frequency limit 2.5 GHz up to 15 GHz. Then a pair of mushroom-shaped SCRs, which produce a new resonance at 2.44 GHz, covering 2.05–2.60 GHz for 2.4 GHz WLAN band with S 11 lower than −10 dB, are embedded into the monopole. The antenna is simulated and measured; the results show that the proposed antenna can be used for 2.4/5.2/5.8 GHz WLAN, 3.5 GHz WiMAX, 3.7–6.425 GHz C band satellite communications and UWB systems.
