Strategic learning. A programme to teach learning strategies to 1st year Compulsory Secondary Education students

Resumen

Desarrollamos y aplicamos un programa de enseñanza de estrategias de aprendizaje sobre alumnos de 1° curso de ESO en dos centros educativos. El programa fue aplicado a lo largo de tres meses y medio con veintisiete sesiones de intervención a razón de dos semanales en una asignatura y en horario de tutoría. El programa fue eficaz y obtuvo los resultados esperados. Los grupos experimentales mejoraron, en ambos centros, frente a los de control, tanto en estrategias de aprendizaje como en rendimiento académico, en Lengua, Ciencias Sociales y Ciencias Naturales. Las mejoras se mantuvieron e incluso se incrementaron en un segundo postest, aplicado dos meses después de acabar el programa. Los datos refieren, pues, generalización y consistencia de resultados

Abstract

A training programme to teach learning strategies to Compulsory Secondary Education students in two educational centres was developed and applied. The programme was carried out over a three and a half months period. It included twenty-seven training sessions, twice a week: one during a lecture period and the other during tutorials. The programme was effective and achieved the expected results. In both schools, the experimental groups' learning strategies and academic efficiency improved in Spanish, Social Sciences and Natural Sciences compared to control subjects' results. These improvements showed consistency and stability in a second post-test applied two months after the programme finished. Therefore, the data show generalisation and consistency of results.
