Abstract

This work seeks to carry out a critical discussion of the concepts of “intentionality”, “meaning” and “representation” by pondering on the polemical whole, made up of the main alternatives currently being considered about these topics, and thereupon trying to understand the polemical unity of sense in the ongoing debate about such issues. In order to do so, a constructivist and a phenomenon-operation-based characterization of the former three concepts is proposed within the zoological and anthropological spheres. The aim is that it may serve as a critique of the following alternatives: (a) a representational dualist conception of cognisance, (b) a positivist physicalism, (c) a pragmatic sociologistical relativism, and (d) a naturalized epistemology project from an evolutionary perspective.
