Abstract

The paper reflects upon psychological processes that guarantee directivity, moral development, and control of violence; relating them to the cultural construction of certain fundamental psychological functions, such as, voluntary action control, empathy and sentimental reconstruction of emotions, personal and cultural identity, and both personal and collective narrative directives. The processes through which audiovisual channels influence violent behaviours are approached from this genetic-cultural perspective of directive function development. As a result of this analysis, the limitations of theoretical models that have inspired educational programmes in the recent past are underlined. Finally, the need to recover some educational characteristics that in the past have had more weight in educational programmes aimed at constructing the human factor in new generations is stressed.
