Abstract

The paper attempts to contribute to clarifying social educators' functions in the area of disability. A socio-historic paradigm is adopted to define Social Education and disability concepts. It is proposed that the educator's work is that of a re-mediating figure: offering resources and tools? both physical and ideological? that help eradicate the disabling characteristics of the cultural contexts in which people live. These contexts involve essential areas of performance, such as the family, work and the community.
