Escuela y televisión: claves de una relación compleja

School and television: Keys to a complex relationship

Resumen

Del análisis de los factores implicados en la relación entre la televisión y los logros escolares, a la luz de las investigaciones más recientes sobre el tema, se desprende la imposibilidad de establecer una simple conexión entre ambos. Por el contrario, un conjunto de factores aparecen implicados, donde el tiempo que pasan los niños ante el televisor es sólo uno más. Pero más allá de ello, es necesario valorar cómo el binomio televisión/escuela puede verse afectado por la existencia de un currículum oculto que estaría formado por el conjunto de modelos ofrecidos por la televisión, los cuales, en muchas ocasiones, se hallan enfrentados a los de la familia y la propia escuela. La solución pasa por reforzar el papel de la escuela acomodándola a la nueva realidad mediática, invitando a los media a integrarse en su currículum y en sus actividades.

Abstract

The impossibility of establishing a simple link between television and schooling achievements is implied by the analysis of the factors involved in the relationship between them, by the light of the most recent research on the theme. On the contrary, a group of factors are involved, of which the time children spend in front of the television is only one of many. But beyond that, it is necessary to evaluate how the existence of a hidden curriculum, that would be made up by the whole of the models offered by television which on several occasions are confonted to those of family and school itself, may have an effect on the binomial television/school. The answer would have to strengthen the role of school adapting it to the new mediatic reality, inviting the media to get integrated in its curriculum and activities.
