Abstract
The redox potential, generally employed in microbiological studies, is used here as a practical parameter to assess, according to the redox characteristics of a system, whether corrosion conditions can be reached or not.
In fuel/water systems, where the associaiion of different species of bacteria and fungi is usual, the use of this parameter is of special interest to determine the importance of each specie in the corrosion process. The use of the redox potential together with electrochemical parameters such as pitting potential or corrosion potential is also discussed.
