Atmospheric corrosion survey of New Zealand

Pages 115-118 | Published online: 18 Jul 2013

Abstract

Results of an atmospheric corrosivity survey of New Zealand are reported. Steel, aluminium, and galvanised steel test coupons have been exposed for 1 year at 168 sites, and weight losses measured. The results are presented mapped by location, and interpreted in terms of proximity to the sea, and to other sources of airborne corrosion stimulating species (geothermal vents and industry). Comparison is made with previous work in New Zealand, and corrosion rates in other parts of the world.
