Preliminary Report of the 1989 Excavations at Site 27 of the Burquc/Ruweishid Project

Pages 33-54 | Published online: 20 Nov 2013

Abstract

The following excavation report represents the first in a series of detailed reports in which the variation evident for the Late Neolithic occupation at Qasr Burquc will be investigated. Site 27, excavated by the Burquc/Ruweishid Project during the 1989 field season, provides clearly stratified detail of the Late Neolithic occupation at the lake. Five phases differentiated for the site suggest that the Late Neolithic period was long and culturally diverse, with development of both structures and artifacts. Comparison of site 27 with other sites in the basalt region suggests that we may begin thinking in terms of an early and late Late Neolithic division within the period.
