The genus Levierella Müll. Hal. (Bryopsida: Fabroniaceae) in Africa, and a review of the genus worldwide

Pages 97-103 | Published online: 18 Jul 2013

Abstract

The genus Levierella is shown to have only two species, L. neckeroides (Griff.) O'Shea & Matcham and L. densiramea Tixier. The type specimen of the genus, L. fabroniacea Müll. Hal., is a synonym of L. neckeroides (= Pterogonium neckeroides Griff.), and the following taxa also become synonyms of L. neckeroides: L. subfabroniacea Broth. & Paris, L. fabroniacea var. dilatatinerve Cardot in Dixon, L. fabroniacea var. abyssinica Dixon, L. perserrata P. de la Varde & V. Leroy. Lectotypes are selected for L. fabroniacea, L. fabroniacea var. abyssinica and L. perserrata. New country records for L. neckeroides are documented for Angola, Malawi and Nepal. Latitude and longitude coordinates are derived for all collections, and a distribution map is provided.
