The Journal is delighted to announce that, at an executive meeting of the International Society of Hematology held in December 2010, Professor Saengsuree Jootar, Chairman, and the Council, consisting of the officials of the three divisions, agreed to adopt Hematology as the official journal of the Society.

This will be recognised immediately by including the ISH logo on the journal cover. Ultimately, each of the three divisions of the Society will provide three members who will join the editorial board, and this will be reflected in the membership of the board as this is revised over the next few months.

Members of the Society will be encouraged to publish their work in the Journal, subject to the normal peer review process.

The Society will be allocated a page in each issue to provide Society news and updates and this will provide an interface between the ISH and its members. The Journal would also anticipate publishing the abstracts and proceedings of the Society meetings as supplements to the journal.

All members will receive the Journal at a discounted rate as part of their Society subscription. Commencing with the XXIV World Congress to be held in Cancun on the 25–28 April 2012, the registration fee will include a small charge to cover the online journal subscription. Members will have online access and may choose to receive a print copy. Prior to the Cancun meeting, members can take advantage of the reduced rate and details will be available on the ISH website. The Journal will maintain a membership list so that members who are unable to attend the meetings will not be disadvantaged.

The Journal is now in its 16th year and has a reputation as a general journal, covering material ranging from basic science to clinical practice. The ISH was founded in 1946 and the meeting in Cancun is under the direction of Dr Guillermo J. Ruiz‐Argüelles, the president of the ISH for the period 2010–2012. The meeting will be held jointly with the Congress of the Agrupación Mexicana para el Estudio de la Hematología A.C. (AMEHAC) founded in 1959, with President‐elect of the AMEHAC, Dr Carlos Martinez‐Murillo, acting as co‐organiser. We hope we will see you there.

This is a very exciting development for both Hematology and the International Society of Hematology and we look forward to a long and productive relationship.
